On 3rd March 2010, HAMM AG, Tirschenreuth, was awarded two design prizes simultaneously for its latest innovations. The GRW 280 rubber-wheeled rollers received the "iF design award 2010". The absolute highlight, however, was the presentation of the "iF Gold Award 2010", also known as the "Design Oscar", for the new "HD+" tandem roller series. These two product ranges link seamlessly to the successes of previous years: Hamm has been awarded a total of 14 design prizes for all its innovations since 1998.

"Good design [...] means that products are authentic and something special, they justify their investment through their quality and sustainability and symbolise life enhancement and quality." Fritz Frenkler, chairman of the jury for the iF product design award 2010, used these words to describe the value of design during this year's award ceremony.

Hamm discovered this many years ago. Design has played a major role in the development of new products in Tirschenreuth since the 1990s. This is how earthwork and asphalt rollers were created which are so inspiring not only due to their high productivity but also their operating philosophy. "We consider intuitive operation and ergonomically optimum workstations for the roller drivers to be of prime importance alongside technical requirements", said Hamm Research and Development Manager, Dr. Axel Römer, about the priorities in the development of new compacting machines. "We link the product design into the construction process right from the start and bring engineering and ergonomics together in this way."

Hamm's two latest developments, the HD+ tandem rollers and the GRW 280 rubber-wheeled rollers convinced all the members of the jury. They were entered in the "Special Vehicles / Construction / Agriculture" category in which the jury has been noting a trend towards "more and more audacity in good design" and has been seeing "very beautiful products with impressive design and function" for quite a few years.

These products certainly include the two Hamm rollers, particularly the HD+. Hamm received the highest award, i.e. the gold award, in this competition. "The functionality of this product and the way in which the individual elements are put together are impressive", the jury assessed and praised the intuitive operation and the magnificent view from the XXL cab of the HD+.

With the "iF design award 2010" the internationally renowned designers acknowledge in Hamm's second entry, the GRW 280 rubber-wheeled roller, that points such as processing, material selection, degree of innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, ergonomics, utilisation visualisation and safety were implemented in an excellent and up-to-date manner.
