The new H20i compactor

High-performance, environmentally friendly, convenient: The first roller with Tier 4 engine technology. The new "H Series" all-rounders for earth-moving are driven by innovative, sustainable engines, offer a perfect view and captivate with excellent handling and compacting characteristics. The H20i is the first model in a new series of compactors made by Hamm. The figure 20 indicates the operating weight of 20 t. The "i" is for "intelligent emission control", underlining that this is a machine with a state-of-the-art, sustainable combustion engine that produces extremely low emissions.

Sustainable engine technology

As for the engines in large compactors, Hamm relies on the tried and tested quality provided by Deutz. The new H20i compactor is fitted with a 6-cylinder diesel engine to provide clean power. With its engine power of 160 kW, the power pack has abundant reserves for efficient compaction, even in extreme conditions. An intelligent air flow enables operation even in outside temperatures of 50 °C. In the process, the diesel engine is very environmentally friendly: state-of-the-art combustion technology, exhaust gas aftertreatment and a diesel particulate filter with automatic regeneration reduce emissions significantly and enable compliance with the strict requirements set out in Tier 4i/EU IIIB/MLIT Step 4i.

Efficient maintenance

The maintenance concept was also improved further with the new engine. This means that in the H20i, all service points and the battery are on one side of the machine. A new air filter can now be cleaned and replaced even more easily. The new compactor now also offers a protected storage compartment under the engine hood as standard, e.g. for storing a tool box.

Increased static linear load

The new H20i compactor is equipped with a slightly revised roller drum. A slightly smaller roller drum width increases the linear load to over 60 kg/cm. This means that the compactor is ideally equipped for efficient and fast compaction with a considerable depth effect.

A great deal of clearance

As in 3000 series machines, the H20i is also equipped with a three-point pendulum articulated joint. It ensures excellent direction characteristics and provides ideal directional stability, even in tight corners. Redesigned side panels and cross members now give the H20i compactor a considerably increased front and rear angle of slope. A large front angle of slope of 43° allows the compactor to manoeuvre easily, even on uneven or steep terrain. Hamm also enlarged the clearance between the cross member and roller drum. This prevents moist material building up on the roller drum. Additionally, V-scrapers in front of and behind the roller drum continuously remove accumulated material.

First-class entry

As pioneers in workplace layout and design, Hamm has further improved the ergonomics in the H20i. The smoothly swung entry is new. The operator can comfortably and safely access the cabin using three large steps and an anti-slip edge at the threshold. Once inside, operators can freely adjust the highly ergonomic seat, operating console and the steering wheel. This enables everyone to find the ideal working position to stay concentrated for a long time in a relaxed posture. A redesigned cabin roof additionally ensures abundant headroom.

Great view

The frame design and the slim design of the engine hood enable an unobstructed view of the surface to be compacted. The exhaust was cleverly integrated into the design to ensure that it does not obstruct the view. Bright halogen lights fitted on the cabin as well as one main headlight with low and full beam headlights light up the construction site in the dark. Optionally, the halogen lights may also be replaced with environmentally friendly and energy-efficient LED lights.

Simple, logical, language-independent

Intuitive operation has been Hamm's trademark for decades. The new H20i compactor consistently continues this development. The operator finds all important display and operating elements on the operating console. Clear symbols and a logical arrangement enable intuitive operation and all displays are language-independent.

Many variants and options

The H20i is available now. The machine is available with a smooth roller drum, padfoot segments or with a padfoot roller drum. Standard equipment already includes the Hammtronic machine management system. An HCQ-GPS navigator can also be subsequently integrated. This system enables precise, even compaction and comprehensive compaction control.
